Getting started

What exactly is DYBBS?

DYBBS is the Dynamic Blind Bidding System — an online service for listing, sharing and fairly dividing personal property. Families use it for estates, divorce settlements and downsizing, and anyone can use the inventory tools on their own.

Do I need to be good with computers?

No. If you can take a photo on a phone and send an email, you can run a division. The screens use large, readable type, one task at a time, and you can call us at any point and we'll walk through it with you.

How long does a division take?

Most families finish in two to four weeks. The inventory is the longest part; the bidding rounds themselves usually take a few days because everyone takes part in their own time.

Can family members in other places take part?

Yes. Everyone takes part online from wherever they are, and they all see exactly the same list at the same time. Nobody has to travel or be in the same room.

How the division works

What is blind bidding?

Each person is given the same number of points to spend and places private bids on the items they care about. Nobody can see anyone else's bids until the round closes, so bids reflect what an item is genuinely worth to that person rather than a reaction to someone else.

What happens if two people bid the same amount?

Ties are resolved by the rules chosen at the start — usually a tie-break round or an alternating selection turn. The rule is agreed before anyone bids, so the outcome never feels invented after the fact.

What about items nobody wants?

At the end of the rounds, the unselected items are listed together so you can decide quickly what to sell, donate or dispose of, and close the house.

Can we use more than one division method?

Yes. A typical settlement uses a blind bidding round for the emotionally important pieces and alternating, turn-based selection for everything else.

Values, reports and records

Are your values formal appraisals?

No. The estimated market values that come with the AI listing are a guide to help people make fair decisions. We can validate everyday values, and a professional appraisal should be arranged for high-value or specialist items.

What reports do we get?

A full allocation summary showing who received what, with photos and values, exportable as PDF, Excel or CSV — readable by the family and ready for an attorney or the court file.

How long is our information kept?

Your subscription runs for 24 months and can be extended, and your data is stored indefinitely while the account stays in use.

People, pricing and help

Can someone neutral run it for us?

Yes. We can act as the independent third-party administrator — consulting with the executor or trustee, designing the rounds and allowing for special family needs. It's an optional add-on to any plan.

Who pays?

Usually the estate, the executor or trustee, or the parties to a divorce, split however they agree. It is a single one-time fee for the whole family, not a charge per person.

What if the personal property is worth more than $250,000?

High-value estates are handled on a separate plan with closer support. Get in touch and we'll recommend the right approach.

Can we start with just an inventory?

Yes. Start with an AI Quick List home inventory from $79.95 and upgrade to a full division at any time.
